Tottenham: Location shots

We decided to focus on making more location shots to add in our music video. This footage will be placed into different sections of our video to add variation and to avoid making our music video look too repetitive.

Editing

In today's lesson we started to edit the footage that we filmed before the half term. As it wasn't a lot, we only managed to edit first section of the song by cutting and placing the location shots for our opening sequence. This was synchronized to the beat of the song so we had to be very patient and accurate when doing so.

Filming: Narrative

During this filming session we filmed the narrative parts of the music video. This included the relationship between Me ( the main character) and Shaquille ( main character's crush) as well as the close relationship between the two artists. A lot of  the shots taken were two shots as it captured both actor clearly and connoted the type of relationship they have (romantic and friendship).

Filming: TV Studio

We filmed in the TV Studio. A majority of the shots that we filmed today were close up shot and mid shots of Jasmine and I lip syncing and dancing to the song. These shots were both captured in single shots and two shots. Originally we planned to film in the photography studio but, we were advised by our teacher that it would be best  to film these shots in the TV studio instead. This is because the Tv studio is set up specifically for filming whereas the photography studio is more beneficial for still images.

Choreography planning

Today, both Jasmine and I decided that a lot of the dancing in the music video will be free styled and a few will be routined. This is because we thought that by having it mostly freestyled, it will reflect to the audience that not only is the music video fun to watch but it also seemed fun to make as we are naturally enjoying ourselves. This will also create a more natural vibe as in some cases having it all planned out can sometimes make it seem fake.

Changes

We had to make a few changes as one of the actor could no longer be apart of the music video due to the differences in our schedule. This means that we will no longer have a trio and only have two female actors. However, this does effect our music video because the song consists of two voice so we only need two people to lip sync the song.

Team Meeting

Today we created a table that will help us calculate when we are all available during school hours as well as weekends. The filled spaces are the available slots that tell us who has a break. If a majority of us are available like on fridays, mondays and wednesdays, we will make time to film.

Choreography Inspirations

We will be adding small choreography in our music video (both routined and free styled). This will be performed by the trio in order to create a more fun and playful vibe that will suit the style of the song. In saying so, we will be combining both old school dance moves and modern day dances like the Nae Nae and the Milly rock. The reason that we decided to incorporating dances that are currently in trend is simply to create a sense of familiarity it which will provide the modernity we want and attract our audience.

Editing

Although we had no footage yet, we wanted to get a head start so we decided to just focus of the audio track. We started by using YouTube converter to convert the song into an mp3 format so that it is accessible for us on the hard-drive. Then using Premiere Pro we placed  the audio track and split it into sections according to the amount of verses and choruses,  This is because on our storyboard we split the song into 9 section according the lyrics of the song so we split the audio track into 9 sections just to make it easier.

Pre - Production: Costume, Props and Make-up Planning

As I am taking on the role of the stylist for the music video, I have created a google slide showcasing the costumes, props and make-up that the actors will be wearing. The general idea that we have planned is to go for a modernised 90s look including baggy clothes and bright colours. I have started by simply creating a series of outfits with pictures of clothes that I already own and piecing them together.

Nevertheless, as the main actors of the video is the trio who will be acting as SWV, I noticed the many conventions in representing a group is to have them in either similar clothes or following a certain colour scheme. In saying so, I have decided to have the girls wearing the same colour scheme to connote the unity of the group; however, they will be wearing different types of clothing to represent their individuality.

Pre- Production: Make-up

Since Tawania is going to be styling the actors in terms of make-up, she has come up a few ideas on what make-up looks she will be doing and made sure they suited the 90s theme of the video. This means that she has gone for more simple and natural looks.
